BMW R12 ambulance

The BMW R12 is a pre-World War II motorcycle that was produced by the German car manufacturing company BMW. The motorbike was first presented and developed in 1935 and a total of 36,000 motorcycles were built by 1942. BMW R12 was the first in the world being produced with hydraulically damped telescopic forks.* During World War II many R12s were adopted for military use. Some of them were fitted with MG34 or MG42 machine gun. Others however served in sanitary service like the one on picture below from unknown unit of Panzer Gruppe 'Guderian'.

This scratch-built 1:72 scale model represents BMW R12 ambulance version. Once all parts were ready, I cast them in resin thus creating a short run resin model kit. This way I am able to produce more models of BMW R12 in 1:72 scale in other versions.

Grumman J2F Duck

This single-engine amphibious biplane was developed by Grumman factory for the U.S. Navy. J2F Duck was used for reconnaissance and rescue duties. It served since mid-1930s until the first phase of World War II. It's war-time cousin played second role in 'Murphy's war' movie.

My "ugly duckling" presents pre-war painting scheme. It is 1:50 scale Glencoe Models vintage short run kit I got from ebay in a bargain price. The build was very frustrating, so I had to give up for some time to ease my nerves. Model below is upgraded with scratch-built interior, landing gear, engine and canopy.

Harley WLA Lend-Lease

During World War II 38103 Harley WLA motorcycles were supplied to Allied countries by virtue of the “Lend-Lease Act”. It is estimated that 26670 of them were delivered to USSR. Although Harley WLA engine is too weak for such an effort, Soviet Army equipped most of them with M72 sidecars armed with heavy machine guns or mortars.

Below miniature is built from scratch and depict the mortar equipped version. The model is 1:72 scale which makes the build quite challenging but also rewarding as there is no such kit available on the market. Picture below is a staged shot probably taken during some field training.

British paratrooper with Welbike

In order to provide good mobility on enemy ground II World War paratroop units were often equipped in foldable bicycles or mopeds. US paratroopers widely used Cushman Airborne Scooter while British 1st an 6th Airborne Divisions used famous Welbikes. In total 3641 units were produced. Some of them were used in Arnhem during Operation Market Garden.

My latest miniature presents a British paratrooper lifting his Welbike out of supply container. The figure is a Tristar product in popular 1:35 scale. The figure is sculpted by Mr. Cheung Law and its pose depicts authentic event. The figure itself did not require much corrections. I've only added collars and ribbings on the jacket sleeves. However the scooter required some additional work. As its frame elements are far too thick, I have made a new frame with use of steel wire and injection needles. I also made a parachute bag for the supply container as it is missing in the kit. Maybe the reason is that this figure exactly depicts the below picture, which is  a staged shot as there is no parachute hooked up to the container.
